Pussy Riot Invades Hot Docs as a Hot Ticket

One of the hottest tickets at this year’s Hot Docs is Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer. Members of Pussy Riot, a feminist collective of punk provocateurs, made headlines when their guerrilla performance on the altar at the St. Christ Church in Moscow spurred swift and harsh penalties landing three of them in jail. Their songs challenged the Russian Orthodox Church and Russian President Vladimir Putin. In trying to shut them down, it shed a light on the climate in Russian where freedom of speech, opinion, and art are condemned as hooliganism.
