Hotel culture isn’t as big in Toronto as it is in a number of our southern neighbor’s cities, but the lounge-style patio DEQ at the back of the Ritz-Carlton comes close. Wide comfortable couches are perfect to nestle into for an afternoon-into-evening catch up session. So comfortable that an afternoon tea turned into a four hour food-filled extravaganza.
We began with shared bites…
The trio of truffle risotto croquettes in a tomato puree was the right combo of crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.
The Albacore tuna was sashimi style and came garnished with sundried tomatoes and black olives, drizzled with olive oil.
The tuna went quite nicely atop the green side salad we had to inject some greenery into the spread.
The truffle frites were dangerously addictive. None of us could stop snacking on the perfectly cut and fried potatoes dipped into the delicious pecorino sauce and side of grated cheese.
From the sandwich section we opted for the falafel pita stuffed with pickles and tabouleh with garlic tahini on the side the smear on.
Just when we thought our stomachs could stuff no more, because we were celebrating a bride-to-be who will say “I do” at the Ritz very soon, we were presented with a circular smorgasbord of sweet and savory treats. Scones, smoked salmon on mini croissants, rich chocolate truffles, dense chocolate tarts topped with raspberries and more. A true taste bud indulgence!
As the sun set a fire was lit behind us and we sank back into the couches in an epicurean-induced food coma. Between the atmosphere, food, and friendly server, DEQ’s patio is a place I’ll return to to soak up what’s left of summer.
