What to do in Toronto: October 3-9

Monday the 3rd: Planet in Focus 2011 Photography Exhibit , Beauty in Yushu photographed by Dr Roman Elinson, opens at The Gallery in the Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre and is on until Halloween.

Tuesday the 4th: Celebrate Toronto’s architecture at the Heritage Toronto Awards hosted by CBC’s Mary Ito and a lecture from TIFF co-director Cameron Bailey. The event takes place at Kroener Hall at 7:30pm.

Wednesday the 5th: The FREE Project is a night of music, poetry, and open-mic arts taking place at the Gladstone Hotel at 7pm. Admission is a donation of a book or CD for the Art Exchange and/or $5 donation to SKETCH (a community organization that engages homeless and street-involved youths in the arts).

Thursday the 6th: The Arnold Party, honouring Canadians who have made valuable contributions to the arts, is a Boardwalk Empire-themed gala at The Carlu.

Friday the 7th: The Sweet Mack plays the Bovine Sex Club.

Saturday the 8th: Get into the Halloween spirit and have a walk before indulging in delicious Thanksgiving feasts and learn about The Haunted Streets of Downtown Toronto at 7pm.

Sunday the 9th: Venture out to the Kortright Centre for Conservation and take in the beautiful Fall Colours Weekend. I used to go to summer camp at Kortright and remember the wonderful walks and atmosphere. A great way to feel like you’re escaping the city without going too far.
