What to do in Toronto: August 22 – 28

Monday the 22nd: Canadian Breast Cancer Network’s Reason For Hope CD release party feat. Mary Stewart, Robyn Dell’Unto, the Danger Bees, Crush Luther and more at Horseshoe Tavern.

Tuesday the 23rd: Musical lovers will love this evening’s double bill. Chicago and All That Jazz are screening at Yonge and Dundas Square.

Wednesday the 24th: Who doesn’t love Jim Henson and his cuddly creations? Take a trip down memory lane and catch The Muppet Movie as part of TIFF in the Park at David Pecaut Square.

Thursday the 25th: If you’re feeling energetic, hop on a bike and pedal around Art Spin. Or if you’re feeling more sedate, head to the Amsterdam Brewery to catch a performance by Yuka and a screening of Submarine at the Open Roof Festival.

Friday the 26th: If you’re up for a lovely calm evening of opera under the stars, grab a blanket and some snacks and head to the Italian Consulate to see a screened recording of Falstaff. Or if you’re feeling freakier, go on a Dream Date with Freddy where A Nightmare on Elm Street: Dream Warriors will be screened and a Q&A with the original Freddy himself, Robert Englund at the Toronto Underground Cinema.

Saturday the 27th: Fan of the original Hairspray (starring Ricki Lake)? How about Cry Baby with Johnny Depp? The man responsible for those films and more, John Waters, is in town for This Filthy World: An Intimate Evening with John Waters at the Toronto Underground Cinema.

Sunday the 28th: Spend the day wandering around the various street performances in and around St Lawrence Market as Buskerfest draws to an end.
