What to do in Toronto: August 15-21

Monday the 15th:Red State: An Evening with Kevin Smith. Silent Bob’s portrayer will be not so silent as he partakes in a Q&A following a screening of Red State at the  Toronto Underground Cinema at 7:30pm.

Tuesday the 16th: It’s a dancing double bill with Mad Hot Ballroom and Strictly Ballroom screening at Yonge and Dundas Square when the sun sets.

Wednesday the 17th: One of my all time favourite flicks, Singin’ in the Rain, is screening as part of TIFF in the Park at David Pecaut Square at 8:30pm.

Thursday the 18th: The beautiful backdrop of the Toronto Botanical Garden is the venue for Garden of Songs: Nagata Shachu, a free concert at 7.

Friday the 19th: Check out what’s purportedly Toronto’s first-ever floating movie theatre experience by parking yourself on a blanket or in a lawn chair at Sugar Beach, or anchoring your boat nearby, as Sail-In Cinema presents the salt-water classic, Jaws at 8:45ish.

Saturday the 20th: Swing by the Distillery District and mow down at the Food Truck Eats from 11-3pm.

Sunday the 21st: If you haven’t seen Rear Window, a Hitchcock classic starring Jimmy Stewart and Grace Kelly, this Movies in the Park at Riverdale Park East seems like the perfect (and free) setting.
