One of my favourite New Yorker things is the standard Sunday brunch of bagels, lox and cream cheese!
Manhattan was vibrant and alive with people and festivals every where you looked. The festivals were fun to stroll through and pick up beverages to cool down. (Lemonade really is one of the most perfect summer drinks.)
But the combination of crowds and heat were to much to bare, so across the Brooklyn we ventured. The Botanical Gardens were our goal, but not before we found Abigail Cafe and Wine bar.
Then it was off to explore the beautiful Botanical Gardens. Words cannot quite capture…
After walking around for hours in the sweltering heat, there were only two things to do to recooperate: ice cream and pedicures!
The last spot on the agenda of the trip is what has become my favourite restaurant in New York, In Vino. Sitting unassumingly in Alphabet City, this cozy spot will win your heart and stomach. It has a rough and rustic decor, with naked bulbs hanging from a ceiling that resembles the inside of a cave, and was formerly a deli (so the bathroom is the old meatlocker…very cool door). The food and the service are equally enjoyable…scrap that…more enjoyable! I had no need to look at the menu as I had been looking forward to the ravioli tartifati ai porcini since my last visit. It’s porcini ravioli in a truffle cream sauce…also known as crack ravioli because it’ll leave you fiending for more, seriously, I’vehad dreams of this dish!
There were four of us, we each had a plate of pasta and shared a bottle of wine (Sundays they have half price bottles) and the entire bill was less than the one bottle of wine we’d had too nights before at the wine bar. Delicious affordable food in a warm environment with warmer service and good friends and family, truly the perfect way to end an epic weekend 🙂
